Overseas Trips: Each year we try to organise an overseas trip with this year – 2018 – some 17 of us fishing Cabo san Lucas in Mexico for a variety of inshore and offshore species including Striped Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna and Roosterfish. Costs are reasonable and equitably shared – you’re not paying a middleman’s commission.
These trips are an ideal opportunity for singletons (even beginners) to join in, fully integrate within the Club and, importantly establish friendships. These friendships often prove to be the basis to plan for future smaller, more specialist trips to remote venues with particular skippers. Do, for instance, multi-day trips to somewhere like Latham Island off the coast of Tanzania targeting world record-sized Dogtooth Tuna and huge Giant Trevally appeal? This is certainly not the type of trip you’re likely to find amongst one of the specialist holiday companies offerings.
UK Sharking: Every August a group of us visit Plymouth for three days targeting Blue Sharks. It’s a very sociable gathering and we release lots of sharks; our best to-date being one taped out at just under 200lbs. But smaller groups of our members regularly fish Cornwall & Pembrokeshire for Blues and Porbeagles, and others off the Isle of Wight where both Porbeagles and Threshers have made a welcome come-back.
Tournament Fishing: Over the years our Club members have competed in a range of tournaments in places as diverse as Hawaii – the prestigious HIBT – Central America, the Caribbean, Kenya and, closer to home, the Canaries. But more recently our members have formed the ‘backbone’ of the English team – one member captains the team – that regularly competes in the World Trolling Championships at a range of international venues. Again, if it’s of interest, the Club might be a ‘home’ for you and access to the world of tournament fishing.
